HOW A BILL BECOMES A LAW

Once the Welsh Assembly (their seal is the flower top left) have passed a bill, it must be sent to Westminster For approval and be signed by the queen. As you can see she has signed it Elizabeth R (R is the Latin for Regina). Then it comes back to Wales and is now LAW.

This is a very important law, signed by the queen herself.

ELECTION RESULTS

As you can see from this breakdown of party seats, Labour is the biggest party in the assembly, therefore its members have taken all the ministerial positions. However if all the other parties join together they can defeat a Labour bill.

A-MACE-ING

This stunning golden Mace was donated to the Welsh Assembly from New South Wales in Australia. A session in the chamber cannot be conducted unless this is in place.

REAL DEBATE

Did you know on Thursday a new law comes into effect, banning smoking in a car that contains children. As a school council we debated the potential consequences and subsequent penalties, then voted on  this very issue.

Some responses from the children were:

it is very dangerous to smoke as you are not concentrating on the road

It is very silly and you should be banned from driving

You can have an accident and hurt someone else

You should get a £60 fine

Eventually came up with a question which we all voted on

IF YOU ARE CAUGHT SMOKING IN A CAR WITH CHILDREN YOU SHOULD HAVE YOUR CAR TAKEN OFF YOU FOR 1 MONTH – this is how the voting went

Well the majority have spoken - don't smoke in a car full of children
